How do I assess student learning?
Using rubrics, checklists, timelines are helpful. However the teacher must do formative evaluations throughout the project to check for understanding and summative evaluations at the end.
How do I involve students in the assessment process?
Students are to look at the state standards and see what they need to know. They they will take ownership of their learning and create assessments for themselves and with the teacher.

I love the way that you plan to involve students in creating the assessments and how you plan to get them to own the learning by identifying with the standards.
