How can I prepare for and facilitate an effective showcase?
Our group prepared for weeks to facilitate an effective showcase. We put in student examples, lesson plans, feedback pages ect. We worked very hard to showcase the presentation on a google slide show and it came out great.
How can I provide constructive feedback?
By being polite, one can critique a presentation with dignity and class. I would use the "oreo" effect. Say something good, suggest what could be an improvement, and end with another positive.

MODULE 7
How can I facilitate a student-centered classroom?
A student centered classroom is not easy to facilitate and it takes a lot of practice and training in the beginning. It is very possible but don't expect to have it flow until well into the 2nd quarter. There must be a lot of planning that goes into each activity and children need to be trained that there is an "I'm done" sort of attitude, that working through the project, editing, thinking, rethinking and redoing are all part of it.
When I had a student-centered classroom and my scores went down. When I come back from break this year I will start more skill and drill, direct instruction and teacher centered classroom to see if my scores go up.
How can I use technology to support my instructional practice?
Technology is a good support but also can be a crutch. Children need to learn 21st century skills but they also need to learn how to sort through all the websites, pictures, URL's to find good quality information. I use technology everyday to support instruction but I still don't think it replaces hands on applications such as math manipulatives because it is still a 2D world.

MODULE 6
How can I help my students become self-directed learners?
This is difficult because if the children are not trained in the beginning of the year to work at a self directed pace then they will play around during a self directed time. The best way to accomplish this is to start out slowly to learn how to be self directed, say with centers activites. If a child is not working indepenedetly and being self directed then consistant consequences will ensue until they are properly trained. Then move to a small project such as a craft and so on. This should take the first quarter. After the class is trained on how to work indepedently and have self control then projects can be introduced.
How can I support the diverse needs of learners?
Higher functioning students can work with lower functioning, students with anxiety can ge assured more, resource teachers and aides are good support systems to bounce ideas off of for specific studnet needs.

MODULE 5
How do I assess student learning?
Using rubrics, checklists, timelines are helpful. However the teacher must do formative evaluations throughout the project to check for understanding and summative evaluations at the end.
How do I involve students in the assessment process?
Students are to look at the state standards and see what they need to know. They they will take ownership of their learning and create assessments for themselves and with the teacher.

MODULE 4
How can the creation of a student sample help me clarify unit expectations and improve my instructional design?
I can go throught the motions of the project to see what works, what will not work, how long it will acutually take. Additionally I can troubleshoot problems with the technology before I let 30 kids to do the project and have a mess to clean up active. Its being proactive instead of reactive.
How can I ensure students will achieve the learning objectives when creating their student projects?
I will monitor progress. I give my students folders with their rubrics and checklists and check on these weekly, conference with groups of students and individuals.

MODULE 3
Module 3
How can I use the internet to support my teaching and students’ learning?
I use domo in the morning to start the day. I make a new cartoon each day which goes along with the theme or skill for the day. Additionally blogs are a good way to write out thinking and process.
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the internet?
Teach the children what to look for in a good website. Additionally sites such as safekids.org are great resources where children, parents and teachers can go to get information they need to learn about responsible usage. Also the center for missing and exploited children will send teachers a class set of pamphlets on cyber-bulling and internet safety.

MODULE 2
Module 2
How can curriculum-framing questions help support my students’ learning?
The big idea is a very important step. There is no right or wrong answer which opens up a possibility of options and higher level thinking skills that would otherwise be missed.
How can I plan ongoing student centered assessment?
Students have a say in their own rubrics and may critique each other as well. With this being said, we must make sure to train the children as to how to give back constructive criticisima and teach what should be included in a good rubric. Possibly students should look at the standards and base rubrics off of these.

questions from 11-3-09 class
Technology can be used most effectively to support and assess student learning. Technology differentiates for all different levels and intelligences of our students.
The creation of a student sample helps me clarify my expectations by going through the process, knowing how long it takes, tweaking the ideas that are excellent and throwing away ideas that are not as strong. Going through the project gives me prior knowledge on what my students will do. This gives me a good idea; step by step; on how to do this project and how I want to grade it effectively. Ensuring the learning objectives through formative assessment will enable the teacher to know where students are in the process.

This module has helped me think about the impact of the Internet on my students’ learning in the following ways….
This module has helped me think about the impact of the Internet on my students’ learning in the following ways by reviewing fair use laws and reminding me to have my studnets cite all pictures, music and text taken from the web.
Also, I didn't realize that you could do parenthetical citations and bibliographies in word. This is very helpful. Another good citation creator is son of citation machine at www.citationmachine.net.
The internet is a powerful tool, but obviously not all things on the web are truthful or ethical. Students need to know how to find a good website. Nextweek in my centers activities we will be going to the comptuers and doing an activity on this very subject: how to find a reliable website.
